In 2024, Costa became the director of football at his home club Porto. He also had a short tenure as the coach of the Romanian club Dinamo București. Costa managed the Indian Super League club Mumbai City FC from 2018 to 2019, where he aimed to implement a more disciplined and tactical approach. Recently, he has been involved in youth development at the Dorchim Sports Academy.

During his time with Porto, Costa played 324 matches.
