Sacramento County shuts down roads as heavy floods trap drivers
Heavy flooding has forced the closure of several roads in Sacramento County. The Department of Transportation shut parts of Sorento Road, Kiefer Boulevard, and Scott Road to keep drivers safe. Emergency crews have already responded to at least one rescue in the affected area.
Sorento Road is now blocked between Elverta and Rio Linda roads. Kiefer Boulevard has also been closed from Jackson Road and Highway 16 all the way to Kiefer Landfill. Meanwhile, Scott Road remains impassable between Boys Ranch and Latrobe roads.
A driver became trapped near Kiefer Boulevard and Michael Jackson Road, requiring a rescue. The vehicle was left behind in the floodwaters. Metro Fire has warned residents not to ignore barricades or attempt to cross closed roads.
Authorities have not yet announced when the roads will reopen. For now, drivers are urged to report flooded routes by calling 311.
The closures come as flooding continues to disrupt travel in the region. Residents must avoid blocked areas and follow official guidance. Updates on reopening times have not been provided.
