By September 2023, over 405 audits had been carried out by tax investigators. Comparatively, 431 audits took place in 2022, and the highest number in the past decade was recorded in 2020 with 567 audits. In 2015 and 2012, the tally was 551 and 386 audits, respectively.

As many as 214 criminal proceedings were initiated by September, a slight decrease from 198 in 2022 and a significant drop from the 2018 peak of 530 proceedings. In 2021, there were only 368 criminal proceedings, and 375 in 2020.
The state government was unable to provide an exact number of posts held by tax investigators. Their rationale: "As there are no designated positions for the tax investigation area, no statement can be made on this." However, the Saarland Ministry of Finance's personnel department has continually advertised senior civil service vacancies in the tax investigation sector within the department.
