Ryan Johansen hangs up his skates after 14 NHL seasons and 578 career points

Ryan Johansen has announced his retirement from the NHL after 14 seasons. The veteran centre, known for his playmaking and leadership, will mark the end of his career with a ceremony at Bridgestone Arena on March 28. His 4-month-old son, Grayson, will be there as he steps away from the game.

Johansen began his career after being drafted fourth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2010. He made his debut in 2011 and spent five seasons with the team. His standout year came in 2014-15, when he scored 71 points and earned All-Star Game MVP honours.

In January 2016, Johansen was traded to the Nashville Predators, where he became a key player for over seven seasons. He recorded 362 points with the team, placing him sixth in franchise history for both points and assists. His playoff contributions were also notable, with 48 points and 31 assists—second only to team records. However, injury kept him out of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final, where the Predators fell short. His final seasons saw brief stints with the Colorado Avalanche in 2023-24 and a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers in March 2024. A hip injury ended his time on the ice, with his last game played on March 4, 2024.

Johansen retires with 578 career points, leaving a lasting mark on the Predators and the teams he represented. His ceremony will celebrate a career that included highs like an All-Star MVP title and deep playoff runs. The event will also highlight his impact beyond statistics, as family and fans gather to honour his time in the league.
