The 2024/25 season is wrapped up for third division football club Rot-Weiss Essen, following their 2-1 victory in the Niederrhein Cup final against MSV Duisburg. Shortly after the triumph, Rot-Weiss Essen's co-chairman of the board, Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer, and board member Alexander Rang, presented their preliminary analysis of the first half of the 2025 season.

RWE Board's Semiannual Report: "Unanimous Compliance Despite Adverse Conditions"

Rot-Weiss Essen's 2024/25 season has come to a close, with the club securing an eighth-place finish in the third tier. Following their Niederrhein Cup final victory against MSV Duisburg, chairman Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer and board member Alexander Rang presented a positive interim balance for the club, citing successes in sporting, economic, and organizational terms.

Pfeifer expressed delight in achieving their initial objective – securing a spot in the league – through a collaborative effort involving players, coaching staff, management, office staff, FÖRDERWERK, and fans. The economic results were equally pleasing, displaying improvements compared to the financial planning in the licensing process, enabling key sporting decisions such as the coaching change and winter transfers.

Important measures in Pfeifer's view included tough but necessary decisions to streamline service provider contracts and make personnel adjustments. These changes aimed to establish a more professional and efficient club structure for long-term success.

In terms of communication, the appointment of Henrik Lerch as the new head of the club's communications department signaled a shift towards modern and professional approaches. This change, falling under Alexander Rang's board area, has resulted in a structured, strategic, and calm communication approach, according to Rang.

Pfeifer emphasized the importance of preserving Rot-Weiss Essen's values and traditions while making decisions, assuring that no service provider or employee is bigger than the club. Despite making unpopular decisions, they attempted to maintain the balance by making them with empathy and in line with the club's history.

The club values unity, with fans, committees, and sponsors rallying together, even in difficult phases. Rang noted how this unity provides the space for the team to work effectively towards the club's best interests.

The fans and media have expressed ambitious goals, but Pfeifer urged caution, setting realistic expectations while acknowledging that the club is now able to invest more in the squad. Financial stability is crucial, said Rang, and ongoing talks with kit supplier JAKO and main sponsor ifm are progressing positively, with hopes for successful outcomes soon.

With the team and coaching staff due for a break, the focus shifts to the sporting leadership and administration as they prepare optimally for the next season. Both Pfeifer and Rang expressed excitement and high motivation for the upcoming challenges.

The Enrichment Data suggests that key elements contributing to Rot-Weiss Essen’s success during the first half of 2025 include a structured training regime with fan involvement, a focus on consistency and preparation, a fan-centric approach, operational transparency, and adaptability. These measures fostered improved team performance, enhanced fan engagement, and organizational resilience, strengthening the club's position on and off the pitch.

  1. With the 2024/25 season concluded, Rot-Weiss Essen's focus shifts to the upcoming European football leagues, aiming to build on their achievements in sporting, economic, and organizational terms.
  2. The club plans to further invest in the squad for the upcoming seasons, ensuring financial stability while adhering to Rot-Weiss Essen's values and traditions, such as a fan-centric approach, operational transparency, and adaptability.
