RWE: Alemannia Aachen Experiences Coaching Changes - Backhouse Departure Confirmed

Shake-up in 3rd Division: Alemannia Aachen Seeks New Coach

Rot-Weiss Essen and Alemannia Aachen, both third division teams, are experiencing some unexpected changes. While Rot-Weiss Essen is enjoying a peaceful summer break, apart from the stadium drama, Alemannia Aachen finds itself in the midst of a great upheaval.

Reports suggest that Heiner Backhaus, currently under contract with the team, is a preferred candidate for the vacant coaching position. However, as the Braunschweig newspaper reveals, talks are ongoing, and a confirmed deal hasn't been announced yet.

Backhaus, known for his successes in higher leagues, led Aachen to promotion and kept them afloat despite financial constraints. Reports also suggest that FC Schalke 04 was interested in his services. With an average of 1.90 points in 77 games as a coach, he's a strong contender.

The search for a successor in Aachen has already begun. Markus Kauczinski's name has been tossed around, much like it did in Braunschweig and Essen in the past. However, there's no formal confirmation regarding a new coach as of now.

Interestingly, Backhaus is a former player for Rot-Weiss Essen. His professional career spanned several clubs across different countries. He worked as a coach for BSV Rehden, Rot-Weiß Koblenz, and BFC Dynamo in Berlin, before leading Alemannia Aachen to the third division in 2024.

Currently, Mark Pfitzner, interim coach for Alemannia Aachen, is said to want to work as Backhaus' assistant coach in the future. Both completed their football coach training together.

As for the latest news about Alemannia Aachen, the team has appointed Ivica Ljubicic as their new goalkeeper coach for the 2025 season. However, no updates about the head coaching position have been reported.
