Rwandan-inspired virtual universe debuts on MyWhoosh in anticipation of UCI World Championships

The cycling world is abuzz with excitement as the UCI Road World Championships take place in Rwanda this month, marking the first time the event is held on the African continent.

In the meantime, the virtual cycling scene is also heating up with MyWhoosh, a free online platform that pairs with all the best indoor smart trainers and bikes, taking centre stage. MyWhoosh has become the leading destination for elite level virtual racing since Zwift stepped back from it.

The platform has launched a three-part mission called Chasing Rainbows, which includes a series of virtual rides inspired by the World Championships' routes. Stage one of Chasing Rainbows is a group ride on a replica of the Individual Time Trial (ITT) route around Kigali, Rwanda's capital. This event is open to participate from 15-21 September.

As for the real-world races, the men's road race at the UCI Road World Championships is expected to be a thrilling contest between Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Pogačar. However, both Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert have decided to sit this one out.

In the women's event, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Demi Vollering are expected to battle it out. Demi Vollering, Chloe Dygert, and Britain's Anna Henderson are among the favourites for the elite women's individual time trial. Great Britain is fielding a strong team in the women's under-23 road race but not in the senior women's event.

The inaugural women's under-23 road race at the UCI Road World Championships starts on Thursday. The men's road race, with over 5,000m of elevation and a length of 267.5km, promises to be a gruelling test of endurance.

MyWhoosh has also created a virtual world inspired by African landscapes for the UCI Cycling Esports World Champs, which will be held in Abu Dhabi this November. The platform is also the partner of the annual Big Ride Challenge, offering social rides every Thursday at 5:30pm (BST). The partner of the Big Ride Challenge is The Active Wellbeing Society, which has been awarded a contract by Birmingham City Council to deliver the next phase of the Big Birmingham Bikes project.

As the world of cycling continues to evolve, these exciting developments are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
