Ruto restructures military leadership, appoints new commanders for Army and Air Force divisions
In a major shakeup, President William Ruto is redefining the Kenyan defense landscape by promoting senior military officials and assigning them key positions.
Catching the spotlight, General David Ketter, previously Major General, got a promotion to become the new Commander of the Kenya Army. He succeeded Lieutenant General David Tarus, who has now been transferred to the National Defence University, Kenya, as Vice Chancellor. Ketter, having been the Assistant Chief of Defence Forces overseeing personnel and logistics, is being eyed as a potential successor to General Charles Kahariri, the Chief of Defence Forces, once the standard rotational norms are met.
Another significant change involves the Kenya Air Force. Bernard Waliaula, previously the Director of Defence National Security Industries, has been assigned as the new Commander of the Kenya Air Force, taking over from Major General Fatuma Ahmed, who retired after serving for forty-two years.
Joel Muriungi M'arimi, former Commander of the Armoured Brigade, has been promoted to Major General and appointed as Commandant of the Kenya Military Academy. Joyce Sitienei, previously the Director of the International Peace Support Centre, has been promoted to Major General and appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic and Security Studies at the National Defence University of Kenya.
In addition, Faustino Lobaly and Charles Mwazighe have been promoted to Major Generals and assigned as Director of National Defence Security Industries and Director of the International Peace Support Centre, respectively.
This overhaul signals a strengthening of the command and operational readiness of the Kenyan military, aligning with institutional traditions such as the Tonje Rules which govern the succession of leadership in the Kenya Defence Forces.
So, buckle up, folks! It looks like we're in for some exciting military developments under the leadership of President Ruto. Stay tuned for more updates!
