Russo-Ukrainian conflict escalates as drones are used to target Russian oil facilities
In a series of recent attacks, two critical oil facilities in Russia have been targeted. The latest incident involves a chemical plant owned by Gazprom in the city of Salavat, Bashkortostan, and a refinery in Volgograd.
According to reports, a chemical plant in Salavat was hit by two drones, causing an ongoing firefighting effort to contain the damage. The head of the region, Radi Khabirov, confirmed the attack, but no casualties have been reported thus far. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Ukrainian media outlets claim their own intelligence sources cite a drone attack on a 'key object' of the plant in Salavat. However, there is no verified information about who is responsible for the attack.
Similarly, the refinery in Volgograd, one of Russia's largest oil processing facilities, has been hit in previous attacks and was reported to have suffered damage in the latest incident. Preliminary information suggests that the operations of the refinery have been halted.
The Ukrainian military has claimed hits at both facilities, with the stated goal of making it more difficult for Moscow to finance the war. The Russian military, meanwhile, intercepted 43 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 11 in the Volgograd region.
It's important to note that the scale of these attacks, while significant, pales in comparison to the destruction Russia is causing in Ukraine with its ongoing war.
The refinery in Volgograd produces fuel for the Russian army, making it a strategic target. The attack on the chemical plant in Salavat was carried out by two drones belonging to Gazprom.
Another attack occurred in the morning in Bashkortostan, but details are scarce at this time.
Firefighting efforts are ongoing at both the chemical plant in Salavat and the refinery in Volgograd, with the hope that the damage can be contained and repaired as quickly as possible.
