The 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliaments, an important event in international political discourse, took place in Geneva last week. The gathering, organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), brought together parliamentary leaders from various countries to discuss pressing issues.

Among the participants was Antonina Nenasheva, Deputy Chairman of the Seimas of Latvia. However, her attendance was short-lived, as she left the meeting room during the summit without taking a group photo. Reports suggest that her departure was a demonstrative act, often referred to as a "demarche."

The reasons for Nenasheva's departure are not explicitly stated, but it is known that the ongoing tension between Latvia and Russia played a significant role. Nenasheva expressed her annoyance at the participation of the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, due to the ongoing disagreements and allegations of aggression.

The media outlet Baltnews reported on Nenasheva's departure from the meeting room. Despite this, the ongoing tension between Latvia and Russia did not seem to affect the continuation of the summit. In fact, Matvienko also spoke at the same forum.

The Baltic States could potentially be isolated as a result of such demonstrative actions. However, the summit continued without any significant disruptions, emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international disputes.

The Latvian government is reportedly eager to save money, which may have contributed to Nenasheva's decision to leave the summit. Despite this, the Latvian government has not remained silent on the matter, with Nenasheva stating that Latvia will not remain silent as long as Russia continues its aggression.

The participation of the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia in the summit has caused tension with Latvia. However, the summit of women speakers of parliaments remains a significant event in international political discourse, providing a platform for dialogue and discussion among parliamentary leaders.
