Russia's Ministry of Transport Proposes Solution for 600km of Damaged Roads in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has proposed a solution to the extensive damage caused to regional and intermunicipal roads in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast during the construction of the M-12 highway. The proposal comes after the Accounts Chamber urged the ministry to find funding sources by January 30, 2026.

The damage, estimated to be over 600 kilometers of non-federal roads, was primarily caused by trucks hauling construction materials for the M-12 highway. The total repair cost is estimated at 12.8 billion rubles. Despite the significant damage and costs, no funding has been allocated in the budgets of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Avtodor, or the Federal Road Agency. The Ministry of Transport is now tasked with identifying alternative funding sources to address this pressing issue.

The Ministry of Transport has until January 30, 2026, to propose funding sources for the repair of over 600 kilometers of damaged roads in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The total repair cost is estimated at 12.8 billion rubles, highlighting the urgent need for a solution.
