Russia's March long weekend offers hiking, skiing and relaxation for Women's Day

Russians will enjoy a three-day weekend in early March thanks to International Women's Day. The holiday falls on Friday, March 8, giving many workers an extended break. Local authorities have also organised outdoor activities for residents and visitors to make the most of the time off.

The long weekend begins on Thursday, March 7, and runs through Saturday, March 9. With no other national or regional holidays in March, this will be the only extended break for many.

On Friday, March 8, hikers can explore Mount Pilakhta, a peak rising over 1,000 metres. Those interested in the Matai Nature Reserve can pick up an informational pass from the Tourist Information Center, allowing free entry to the area.

The following day, Saturday, March 9, guided cross-country ski tours will take place in the Petropavlovsky Forest. After the excursion, participants can unwind at a nearby tourist base. The facility offers heated saunas and an outdoor hot tub for relaxation.

The holiday weekend provides a chance for outdoor activities, from mountain hiking to skiing. Tourist centers will support visitors with passes and guided tours. Many will also take advantage of the leisure facilities available at local bases.
