Russia’s Black Sea Fleet survives failed underwater drone attack unscathed

An attempted underwater drone attack targeting Russia’s Black Sea ended without damage. Official reports confirmed no harm to ships, submarines, or personnel. Claims of a submarine being destroyed in Novorossiysk were later dismissed as false.

The incident involved an uncrewed underwater drone, which failed to cause any destruction. Authorities stated that no vessels or crews were affected by the attempt. Ukrainian special services were accused of spreading misleading details about the event.

No verified actions by the Ukrainian government against the Black Sea in Krasnodar between December 18 and 19, 2020, appear in records. The fleet’s main base is in Sevastopol, Crimea, not Krasnodar. Earlier reports noted Ukraine’s unsuccessful attempts to sell the cruiser Ukraina to Russia, but no direct link to this incident exists.

The Black Sea Fleet denied any losses, including the false claim of a submarine being destroyed in Novorossiysk. Officials reiterated that all personnel and equipment remained unharmed.

The failed drone attack left no impact on Russian naval assets. Authorities dismissed all claims of damage as unfounded. Ukrainian sources were blamed for circulating inaccurate information about the operation.
