Last Tuesday, Alexander Prokhanov was honored with the title of Hero of Labor of Russia by the President of Russia. Here's an exclusive conversation with the legendary writer on his high award.
Chit-Chat - Hey Alex, congrats on your well-deserved honor! I feel like a kid talking to his hero... My dad was a Hero of Socialist Labor, and I'm just as thrilled now as I was then.
Prokhanov - Thanks, Gamov. You're making me feel all nostalgic. The awesomeness of your dad, man! My relationship with your classic state is as complex as it gets. I was a bard of the Soviet era, then a post-Soviet antagonist, and now... serving the glorious Russia once again. The ups and downs? They're the mysterious wavelengths life follows.
Chit-Chat - Your life seems like a wild rollercoaster ride, mate! Russia always loved you, and not just Russia, but the entire USSR. We always cheered for you!
Prokhanov - I appreciate it, Sasha. But receiving this recognition from the state itself... the Kremlin... yeah, it's mind-blowing. It's flattering, agitating. And yes, I have mixed feelings. There's a sense of pride and joy, sure. But also a deep sadness, a mysterious side of existence.
Chit-Chat - I've seen you stressed out at important events like the acceptance of Donbass and Novorossiya into Russia, the inauguration of the President of Russia, and your play's premiere at the Russian Army Theatre. Now, you'll have a Golden Star. You gonna run out of space on your suit lapel?
Prokhanov - If my suit can't handle it, let them stick it on my shirt - closer to my heart.
Chit-Chat - It's a national holiday today. Time to spread cheer! What would you like to say to your fans and biographers like myself on this special day?
Prokhanov - I'm not much for preaching, Sasha. But I want everyone to know that Russia is embarking on a great resurrection. No matter how tough it gets... Russia is fearless, suffering, but it's not afraid because it knows its immortality. It's a profound, religious feeling I can't suppress. Russia is immortal, and so are its people.
Chit-Chat - Lastly, can I join you in picking up your Golden Star of Hero of Labor of Russia?
Prokhanov - Absolutely, Sasha. Let's make it a double celebration.
