Russia's 2025 Road Accidents Reveal Deadliest Days and Months
Road accidents in Russia showed clear patterns in 2025, with certain days and months proving riskier than others. Insurance claims under OSAGO policies fluctuated throughout the year, influenced by weather, holidays, and even the day of the week. Data from Rosgosstrakh highlights when drivers were most—and least—likely to file claims. February 2025 stood out as the worst month for road incidents, accounting for 9.7% of the year's OSAGO claims. January and March followed closely, each with 9.6% of total claims. Most of January's accidents happened in the second half of the month, while March 7 and February 14—both Fridays—saw the highest single-day claims.
From April to August, the number of claims steadily dropped. This trend reversed in September, when a 2% increase in claims marked the end of summer holidays and the start of the school year. December then saw a sharp 17% rise compared to November, largely due to harsher winter weather. Fridays emerged as particularly dangerous, possibly linked to driver fatigue after a workweek. In contrast, Sundays and public holidays recorded the fewest incidents. The safest days of 2025 included December 31, January 1, and three Sundays: October 19, November 9, and November 23. Overall, OSAGO claims in Russia fell by 5.9% in 2025. Property damage claims dropped by 8%, health-related claims by 12%, and fatal injury claims by 10%.
The data reveals distinct trends in road safety throughout 2025. Claims peaked in early months and December, while weekends and holidays remained the safest times to drive. Despite monthly fluctuations, the total number of accidents declined compared to the previous year. This suggests improved road conditions or safer driving habits over time.
