Dishin' the Tea on Russia-USA-Germany Relations: The Nitty-Gritty

Russians View Germany as the Most Unfriendly Nation

Gone are the days when the Russians considered the States the least friendly country. That top spot's been taken over by none other than Germany! According to a recent survey by the independent Moscow polling institute Levada, 55% of respondents named Germany as the most unfriendly country - that's a whopping 40 percentage point increase since May 2020[1]!

The USA used to hold the top spot for about two decades, but now it's only labeled as such by 40% of respondents, down from 76% last year[1]. This shift in hostility can be attributed to the revival of Russian-American relations under President Donald Trump[1].

On the opposing side, let's not forget about Germany getting some heat from the Russian bigwigs. The reasons aren't hard to find. It's all about those arms deliveries to Ukraine and the fact that it's under attack from Russia. The tone between both countries has hardened since German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz took the reins. The UK takes second place for countries seen as hostile to Russia, with 49% of respondents, followed by Ukraine with 43 percent[1].

Switching gears, when asked about their closest and most friendly relations, Russians named neighboring Belarus and China first, with 80% and 66% of respondents, respectively. Kazakhstan came in third, with 36% of the votes, followed by India and North Korea[1].

This represents the Kremlin's official policy, which divides the world into friendly and unfriendly states, particularly since the Russian invasion of Ukraine[1]. As for Germany, once a major importer of Russian gas, it's now criticized for its military support for Ukraine[1].

1,613 individuals aged 18 and over were surveyed between May 22 and 28[1]. Grab your popcorn and stay tuned for more twists in this global geopolitical chess game!
