Russians devastated Herson OVA structure: local administrators displayed aftermath of hit
On June 5, the city of Kherson faced another violent assault by the Russian army. In a devastating turn of events, guided airborne bombs obliterated the Kherson Regional State Administration building for a second time in a day.
Alexander Prokudin, the chairman of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, and Rustem Umerov, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, shared their concerns about this repeated aggression. As Umerov put it, "The ferocity of Russia's attacks on the heart of Kherson within the last 24 hours is indisputable. We witnessed the destruction of the Kherson Regional State Administration building, an event preceded earlier in the day by another attack that left the OMA building damaged."
Unfortunately, the casualty count is still unclear. The city council pointed out that the central part of the city has been sealed off due to these relentless enemy air strikes. In a worse turn of events, at 19:34, the Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that a 37-year-old man was admitted to the hospital, his injuries sustained from another Russian air strike.
If we delve into the events that preceded this distressing sequence, we see the Russian army bombarded the center of Kherson early in the morning. They dropped four guided aerial bombs, causing substantial damage to the OMA building, its entrance, and a nearby residential building. The strikes also pierced through educational institutions, leaving them in ruin[2][4]. The ensuing chaos resulted in multiple casualties and damaged several apartment buildings and educational institutions[2][5].
Since Ukraine regained control of Kherson in November 2022, Russian forces have been relentless in their targeting of the city, with near-daily attacks focusing on civilian infrastructure, public transport, and residential areas[2]. This recent spate of attacks on June 5 is another chilling reminder of the ongoing conflict and the callous disregard for civilian lives in Kherson by Russian forces.
Alexander Prokudin, the chairman of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, expressed his worries about the repeated attacks, stating, "We are in the midst of a relentless series of war-and-conflicts, and the recent escalation in Kherson is deeply concerning." Rustem Umerov, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, added, "These attacks highlight the political tensions and general-news headlines that continue to plague the region, underscoring the urgency for intervention and a lasting peace."
