Russian woman repays 437,000 rubles after years of wrongful regional benefits

A woman in Russia's Far North has repaid 437,000 rubles after wrongfully claiming regional allowances for years. Authorities took legal action to recover the funds, which were meant for residents of Vorkuta but were collected after she moved away. The case began when the woman, now retired, relocated to Krasnodar Krai but kept her official registration in Vorkuta. This allowed her to continue receiving a northern allowance she was no longer entitled to. The total overpayment reached 437,000 rubles.

Bailiffs stepped in after a civil claim was filed to recover the money. They froze her bank accounts and placed restrictions on property transactions. Despite the enforcement measures, a criminal fraud case linked to the payments was eventually dropped. Before the deadline, the debtor's representative settled the full amount. The payment was transferred to the federal budget, and all coercive measures were lifted once the proceedings concluded.

The recovered funds have been returned to the federal budget in full. The woman's accounts and property restrictions were removed after repayment. Authorities confirmed the enforcement process is now closed.
