Rubles, Bailiffs, and Ball-blocking: Matvey Safonov's Alimony Saga

Footballer Matvey Safonov has settled his alimony debt to his ex-wife, but the looming bailiffs' decision about lifting enforcement measures threatens his spot on the national team roster. The saga comes as a surprise, given Safonov's move to French powerhouse PSG.

Before joining PSG in 2024, Safonov found himself in hot water. The courts prohibited him from leaving Russia, citing a 14 million ruble alimony debt to his ex-wife, Anastasia Kazakevich. As court rulings and reviews went back and forth, the debt ballooned to over 60 million rubles. These unwanted financial obligations kept Safonov from playing in national team matches, as he couldn't return to Russia due to the travel ban.

Cutting through the red tape, Safonov paid off the hefty debt, amounting to over 66 million rubles, and waited for the bailiffs to lift the restrictions. If they do, Safonov will be eligible to play in the friendly match against Nigeria's national team planned for June 6.

Safonov's legal representative, Andrei Kryuchkov, weighed in on the situation, stating, "Safonov, being a decent person, would never take money from his child." Accusing Anastasia of deceit, Kryuchkov claimed she led Safonov to transfer a flat to their daughter as alimony, a move that, in Safonov's defense, was intended to settle the debt before the divorce. Anastasia, however, has denied any such agreements, leaving the situation in a heated stalemate.

From a football perspective, Safonov's move to Paris has proven fruitful so far. He joined the club in the summer of 2024 and even got a taste of the UEFA Champions League victory, playing a part in the squad that made Krasnodar native Safonov the fifth Russian player to conquer the esteemed title. Macron himself congratulated the talented goalkeeper on his LCS win.

When it comes to personal matters, Safonov's fans will have to keep a close eye on events unfolding in Russia. Until the bailiffs decide on the enforcement measures, the goalkeeper's future on the national team remains uncertain.

- In the midst of this fiscal turmoil, Safonov remains a gentleman, ensuring the welfare of his child, even when faced with challenging court orders. This recent supreme court decision has brought some reprieve to Safonov, lifting certain travel barriers, first domestically and shortly internationally, as stated by his lawyer - Andrei Kryuchkov.

Note:A legal dispute involving Safonov and Kazakevich concerning alimony or child support payments is not widely reported in major English or international media outlets. Such disputes may be more prevalent in Russian tabloids and local social media but should be verified with reputable sources before being shared or acted upon. Privacy laws and Russia's media reporting habits may contribute to the lack of publicity of many personal disputes unless they become major legal cases or are covered by influential social media figures.

On a personal note, Matvey Safonov, despite the ongoing financial disputes, remains dedicated to his child's welfare, even under the scrutiny of challenging court orders.

Thanks to the recent supreme court decision, certain travel restrictions have been lifted, providing a glimmer of hope for Safonov to rejoin the national team roster, pending the final ruling by the bailiffs.
