Vital Info Facebook Twitter WhatsApp Email Print Copy Link The recent blaze that set six trucks ablaze in Erfurt was more than just an accident, and Russian propagandists are censoriously spreading the rumor that these vehicles were meant for Ukraine.
As per the Ministry of Defense in Berlin, these trucks were essential tools for the Bundeswehr troops, not intended for delivery to Ukraine. "Spare me the nonsense, these are our soldiers' vital equipment," a ministry spokeswoman clarified.
The Thuringia State Criminal Police Office is currently conducting an investigation into the arson attack on a private company's premises, with military police lending a hand to assess the situation. Investigative leads are being followed regarding possible Russian puppeteers executing the attack. "That's a hot lead we're chasing," declared a spokeswoman from the Erfurt Public Prosecutor's Office. However, the investigations are open-ended, checking every possible direction.
Politics Truck Blaze: Kremlin Revels in Attack on Bundewehr in Erfurt On the pro-Russian military blog "War Obsessed," images and videos of the trucks both pre- and post-flame were shared, along with footage of the blaze in its early stages with no emergency services in sight. "Who posted this video?" the public prosecutor's spokeswoman pondered.
A caption under the video reads in Russian: "In Erfurt, Germany, military equipment for the Ukrainian forces was being repaired. Our folks thought this wasn't necessary, and the Ukrainian forces didn't need this equipment. So, they torched it."
Interior Minister Warns of a Threat to Democracy
The Thuringia Command of the Bundeswehr confirmed that the video was under their radar. "At this point, it's just conjecture whether it's a sabotage act by pro-Russian villains or a monstrous propaganda stunt," the spokesperson revealed. The Bundeswehr refrains from engaging in speculations.
Thuringia's Interior Minister Georg Maier from the SPD speculated it was premature to pinpoint the culprit behind the attack. "If it's confirmed that a foreign nation, like Russia, deliberately carried out this sabotage on our soil, then this is a direct attack on our democracy. I vehemently condemn such hostile attacks on German soil," Maier declared.
In June last year, military vehicles were reportedly set ablaze at the same location in Erfurt. No details on the incident's background are available from the LKA. There's an information exchange going on regarding similar incidents in Germany. There's no insight into the current state of the investigation.
In March, multiple Bundeswehr vehicles were set ablaze in Berlin, followed by six vehicles burning in Lower Saxony, Soltau. Both incidents saw claim-of-responsibility statements surface on the left-wing extremist platform "Indymedia." In the case of Berlin, a group known as "Agenda2029" made this statement: "An intensified global war is being planned right here in Germany, so we must sabotage the centers of the warmongers."
