Russian oil facilities come under attack from Ukrainian drones

In a series of attacks over the past two days, the Ukrainian military has claimed responsibility for strikes on oil and chemical facilities in two Russian regions near the Volga River. The city of Volgograd, with a population of millions, was shelled during the night, according to local reports. The head of the region, Radi Khabirov, confirmed that the local refinery was hit by two drones. This refinery, one of the largest oil processing plants in Russia, produces fuel for the Russian military. The attacks are believed to be an attempt to disrupt the fuel supply of the Russian military and make it more difficult for Moscow to finance the war. A fire is currently being extinguished at the Volgograd refinery, and all emergency services are on site. Preliminary information suggests that the work of the refinery has been halted. It is not the first time the refinery has been targeted in attacks. Another attack occurred in the region of Bashkortostan, specifically in the city of Salawat. Ukrainian media outlets reported that the drones used in the attack on the Salawat chemical plant, which belongs to Gazprom, were from the SBU intelligence service. Governor Andrei Bocharov reported minor damages to some residential houses due to falling drone debris, but no deaths or injuries have been reported. The extent of the damage to the Salawat chemical plant is still being assessed. Russian military reports indicate that they intercepted 43 Ukrainian drones overnight, including nearly a dozen in the Volgograd region. The Ukrainian military has not officially commented on these claims. These attacks mark a significant escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and it remains to be seen how both sides will respond in the days ahead.
