Russian military presses on: Zelensky issues alert for "three impending attacks"

In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the situation remains tense as both sides continue to wage exhausting battles. Despite ceasefire talks failing to yield any results, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has warned of further Russian advances on Ukrainian territory.

Russian troop movements and offensives are primarily focused on intensifying attacks around the Siversk direction in Donetsk Oblast, northern Kharkiv Oblast, and Luhansk Oblast. In the Siversk direction, Russian forces have increased assaults and air strikes aimed at gaining footholds on the outskirts of Siversk, with troop and armored vehicle concentration reported near the Lysychansk Oil Refinery in occupied Verkhnokamyanske, signaling preparations for larger assaults by late August 2025.

In northern Kharkiv Oblast, Russian forces continue offensive actions, attempting to push Ukrainian troops from the border near Belgorod Oblast closer to Kharkiv City. Fighting near Vovchansk, Synelnykove, and areas northeast of Velykyi Burluk has been reported, but no confirmed advances have occurred recently.

In Luhansk Oblast, Russian objectives include capturing the remainder of the region and pushing westward into eastern Kharkiv and northern Donetsk Oblasts. There are conflicting claims of Russian advances northeast of Pokrovsk and surrounding settlements, while Ukrainian forces also counter-advance in some areas.

One of the last major urban areas in the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control is Konstantinovia, which has been under repeated attacks using guided bombs and rockets, resulting in three deaths and 13 injuries according to Ukrainian police. Russian units reportedly captured parts of a major highway connecting important towns in the Donetsk region during their advance.

Ukraine believes Russia is planning new offensives in three sectors, with one of the main directions being Saporishshia. Moscow demands that Kyiv cede the four partially occupied eastern Ukrainian regions of Saporishshia, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Cherson, as well as the annexed Crimean peninsula, and renounce Western military aid and NATO membership.

Despite these demands, Ukraine has so far rejected them, but reports suggest that Zelensky's stance on this issue may be softening. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska to discuss the Ukraine conflict on Friday. Trump has stated that he will not make 'any deal' with Putin, but will 'get back' territories for Ukraine.

In a recent statement, Zelensky stated that the Russian army is not preparing for an end to the war, but for new offensives. This assertion underscores the need for continued vigilance and robust resistance by Ukrainian forces to limit Russian advances and protect Ukrainian territory. The situation remains dynamic with ongoing artillery duels, infiltration tactics, and missile strikes on broader Ukrainian territory.

  1. In light of the Russian army's intensified offensives, such as the reported troop movements near the Lysychansk Oil Refinery and the capture of parts of a major highway, the general news is filled with reports of war-and-conflicts involving Ukraine and Russia, while politics revolve around the ongoing discussions between Zelensky and Trump regarding the Ukrainian territory.
  2. Despite Ukraine's rejection of Russia's demands to cede four partially occupied regions and the annexed Crimean peninsula, among other issues, the use of aggressive tactics by the Russian army, including the bombing of Konstantinovia and the possibly impending offensives in Saporishshia, indicates a kind used in past war-and-conflicts that Ukrainian forces must continue to resist against to protect their territory.
