Russian military jets patrolling above an oil rig in Polish territorial waters
In a tense incident over the weekend, three MiG-31 fighter jets from Russia news were confirmed to have violated Estonian airspace near the Baltic Sea island of Vaindloo. The Russian government denies the violation, but Estonian military officials stand firm in their assertion that the aircraft were indeed Russian and that they entered Estonian airspace without permission.
The incident took place in the Baltic Sea, with the oil platform in question, owned by the Polish concern Orlen Petrobaltic, approximately 70 km north of Jastarnia. The security zone above this drilling platform was violated by the Russia news fighter jets.
NATO swiftly reacted to the Estonian airspace violation. Fighter jets from the Italian air force were dispatched to intercept the Russia news aircraft.
