Russian military jets now patrol the skies above a Polish oil platform, following the activation of NATO fighter jets to confront three MiGs that flew over Estonia.

In a series of recent events, NATO allies have been put on high alert as Russia tests the alliance's aerial defense measures. The latest incident involves the violation of Estonia's airspace by Russian fighter jets, prompting immediate response from NATO and the deployment of Italian F-35s.

According to security expert Will Geddes, these provocative actions by Russia are designed to test NATO's readiness and response capabilities. The EU foreign policy boss, Kaja Kallas, labelled the Estonian airspace violation as an 'extremely dangerous provocation'.

Estonia's Foreign Minister, Margus Tsakhna, reported that Putin's forces have already violated his country's airspace four times this year. The jets stayed in Estonian airspace for nearly 12 minutes, reportedly flying over Vaindloo Island. This incursion is considered unprecedentedly brazen.

In response, Estonia has requested NATO Article 4 consultations, which allow a NATO member to convene urgent talks when it feels its 'territorial integrity, political independence or security' are at risk. Under Article 4, NATO member countries would then discuss the situation and provide advice and assistance to the requesting member.

The UK has also announced it will deploy RAF fighter jets to Poland for fresh NATO operations, adding to the alliance's defensive presence in the region. The Polish authorities reported a 'low flyover' of Russian military planes near an oil and gas platform.

Russia, however, denies any wrongdoing. The Russian government claims the flight of its MiG-31 jets over Estonian airspace was a 'scheduled flight' conducted in strict compliance with international airspace regulations. All three planes' transponders were turned off at the time, according to reports.

The Russian government's actions have not gone unnoticed. Defence Secretary John Healey MP considers Russia's latest activity a reckless and dangerous one. Sir Richard Moore, a former head of MI6, has warned that Putin is 'stringing us on' and does not want hostilities to end.

Despite these tensions, Putin's aggression only serves to strengthen the unity of NATO and the resolve to stand with Ukraine. Estonia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian charge d'affaires in the wake of the incursion, signalling a firm response from the NATO alliance.

In another development, Russia has also deployed drones into Romania, prompting allies to scramble F-16s in response. The UK's decision to deploy RAF fighter jets to Poland for fresh NATO operations further underscores the alliance's commitment to collective defense.

As tensions continue to rise, it is clear that NATO remains vigilant and ready to protect its member countries' territorial integrity and security. The latest incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of a strong and united NATO in the face of Russian aggression.
