Russian military initiates intricate assault on railway system, as per announcement from Defense Ministry chief.
In a statement made on Facebook, the Chairman of the Board of PJSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, announced delays and temporary route restrictions in railway traffic following an enemy attack.
According to Pertsovskyi, the attack resulted in a power outage, causing disruptions on several key routes. The affected routes include the 86/72 Lviv - Zaporizhzhia - Pavlograd, 85/71 Zaporizhzhia - Pavlograd - Lviv, 75 Kyiv - Kryvyi Rih, and 80 Lviv - Dnipro.
The exact location and nature of the power outage were not specified, but Pertsovskyi described the incident as "another complex attack on the railway."
In the morning, UZ reported that some trains are following altered routes, and several trains were cancelled, including No6501/6592 Znamianka - Shevchenko - Cherkasy, No6503 Znamianka - Myronivka, No6331 Znamianka - Pomichna, No6332 Kolosivka - Znamianka shortened to Kropyvnytskyi station, No6036 Pomichna - Znamianka route shortened to Saharna station.
To help minimize delays, UZ has 20 standby diesel locomotives already in use, and locomotive crews have been dispatched. Pertsovskyi stated that other trains might also be affected by the disruptions.
UZ dispatchers took precautions, stopping some trains at a safe distance from the impact zone. The attack on the Ukrainian railway infrastructure during the night involved an airstrike on the Losowa railway junction, resulting in the death of one railway employee and injuring at least ten people.
This attack is part of a broader Russian effort to disrupt Ukrainian supply routes, as Russian attacks on Ukrainian railways have been affecting tens of trains and the logistics of Russian-occupied areas. The Russian attacks on Ukrainian railways have been met with sustained Ukrainian attacks on Russian railways, further complicating the situation.
As the situation continues to develop, UZ encourages passengers to check their train's status before departing and to stay informed about any updates regarding their travel plans.
