Russian Leader Leaves Out Attendance at Turkey-Hosted Ukraine Peace Negotiations
In the heart of the clash between Ukraine and Russia, Vladimir Medinsky, an assistant to Vladimir Putin, steps up to take the helm for Russia in the peace talks in Istanbul. Interestingly, Putin decides to stay on the sidelines, leaving the diplomatic battlefield to Medinsky[1].

As the talks commenced, it became clear that neither Putin nor Donald Trump were part of the negotiations. A US official confirmed Trump's absence after Putin announced the Russian delegation[1]. There had been speculation about Trump possibly joining the discussions if Putin were present[1].
Curiously enough, Trump had flirted with the idea of attending the Turkey-held talks if Putin made an appearance[1].
