Russian judoka Anastasia Barabash wins gold at Junior European Judo Cup
Russian judoka Anastasia Barabash has claimed gold at the Junior European Judo Cup in Sarajevo. The 18-year-old triumphed in the 48 kg category, helping her country dominate the competition. Over 340 young athletes from 23 nations took part in the event.
The tournament took place in Sarajevo with 346 competitors across multiple weight classes. Russia sent a strong team of 22 judokas, including Barabash, who trains at the Alexander Kozlov Olympic Reserve School in Yekaterinburg.
Barabash began her judo career in Amur District before moving to the specialised training centre. Her victory contributed to Russia's success, as the team finished first in the medal standings. They collected six golds, four silvers, and six bronzes.
Serbia secured second place with three golds, two silvers, and three bronzes. The event showcased emerging talent from across Europe, with athletes competing for top honours in their respective divisions.
Barabash's win highlights Russia's continued strength in junior judo. The team's overall performance in Sarajevo reinforces their position as a leading force in the sport. The next generation of judokas now prepares for future challenges on the international stage.
