Russian Intelligence Thwarted: Plot to Infiltrate Kherson Defenses Uncovered; Local Spy Arrested by SBU

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has made a significant move in the ongoing conflicts between Ukrainian and Russian forces, as they arrested a suspected Russian spy in the city of Kherson. This latest development comes as the Netherlands deploys two of three Patriot batteries to Poland, adding to the international efforts to support Ukraine.

In Kherson, SBU officers have thwarted an attempt by Russian forces to break through into the rear of the Defense Forces in the south of Ukraine. The detained individual, a 37-year-old local resident, was monitored by Russian military intelligence due to anti-Ukrainian comments in pro-Russian Telegram channels.

The suspect, who faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property, has been remanded in custody without the right to bail. He has been charged with high treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The operation was carried out by SBU officers in the Kherson region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor's office. SBU cyber specialists documented the intelligence activities of the Russian agent and detained him at his residence.

The detained individual was tasked with collecting information about the coastal zone, fortifications, and the security system of defense facilities located near the Dnipro River. This information was intended to be used to organize the breakthrough of Russian DRGs and the subsequent consolidation of their advance groups.

Kherson, a key city in southern Ukraine, has become a symbol of resistance in Russia's full-scale invasion. The city was occupied by Russian forces in the first weeks of the war but was liberated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in November 2022, forcing Russian troops to retreat to the left bank of the Dnipro River.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is vigilant in its efforts to prevent Russian incursions into the region. Recently, the SBU's actions in Kherson have been aimed at preventing such incursions, as they arrested a suspected Russian spy who filmed airports for the Russian occupation forces in the Lviv region.

Meanwhile, the situation in Kherson remains under the watch of the SBU. The arrest of the suspected Russian spy serves as a reminder of the ongoing conflicts between Ukrainian and Russian forces and the importance of maintaining vigilance in the face of potential threats.

As international support continues to pour in, with the Netherlands deploying Patriot batteries to Poland, the people of Ukraine can take comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone in their fight for freedom and sovereignty.
