In a significant development, the port city of Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai was the target of a coordinated drone attack on the night of July 6, 2025. The attack, which involved both maritime and aerial drones, lasted for several hours and resulted in the destruction of three unmanned Ukrainian boats by the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The incident, which took place in the Black Sea, a body of water bordering southeastern Europe and western Asia, saw the city's mayor, Andrey Kravchenko, order the closure of traffic and banning of walking along the embankment during the attack. The threat from unmanned boats was officially lifted at 6:33 a.m. local time after the drones were repelled.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that around 120 drones were shot down overnight across multiple regions, including the area around Novorossiysk. The Black Sea Fleet was responsible for the destruction of three more unmanned boats in the Black Sea. The boats destroyed were unmanned, suggesting no human casualties on the Ukrainian side.

Despite the successful defense, there is no detailed information yet about the damage or casualties from the attack. A man was injured in the Kursk region by drone debris, but no direct consequences in Novorossiysk have been confirmed so far. This strike continues Ukraine's pattern of targeting Russian military assets inside Russia amid the ongoing conflict.

The incident follows reports of repelling drone attacks in Novorossiysk on the night of July 6, making it a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Kravchenko urged residents to remain calm and adhere to safety measures during the attack. The latest updates indicate that the embankment remained closed until the morning of July 6.
