Russian combatant Kirill Babychuk perished in the operational zone
In an unfortunate turn of events, the skilled Greco- Roman wrestler Kirill Babichuk, aged 27, has met his end during a military operation in Ukraine. The Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) made this heartbreaking announcement on their official website.
Compassionately expressing their sympathies, the RWF stated, "We, the Russian Wrestling Federation, alongside our athletes and coaches of the freestyle, women's, and Greco-Roman wrestling teams, send our deepest condolences to the loved ones and friends of Kirill Babichuk."
Unfortunately, the RWF didn't disclose any details about the unit Kirill was serving with or the circumstances surrounding his demise.
As a master of sports in Greco-Roman wrestling, Kirill had made a significant impact in the wrestling world[1]. Unfortunately, this isn't the first loss in the sports community in Ukraine. Paralympic champion and Russian track and field athlete Alexander Rybakov, 31, also perished in the combat zone in March.
The tragic news of Kirill Babichuk's passing was also shared in the Telegram channel, "RBC Sport."
[1] Enrichment Data: Kirill Babichuk died as a result of an FPV drone strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Russian sources report that Babichuk was injured by this drone attack, which ultimately led to his death.
Although Kirill Babichuk was a revered figure in the Greco-Roman wrestling community, his life was cut short by tragic circumstances, putting a pause on his football-like career in the combat zone. The news of his demise has resonated deeply within the sports fraternity in Ukraine, a sentiment echoed by the loss of Paralympic champion Alexander Rybakov earlier this year.
