Russian Citizen Sentenced to Life for Foiled Poison Plot
Egor Semenov, a Russian citizen, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for a foiled terrorist plot targeting graduates of the Armavir Military Aviation Institute. The case involved poisoned alcoholic beverages and a cake, intended for a graduation anniversary celebration.
Semenov, who became a Russian citizen in 2022, was recruited by Ukrainian special services in 2023. His task was to carry out the murder of the graduates in exchange for 400,000 rubles. He added the toxic substance coramine to cognac and a cake, which an examination later confirmed. Semenov instructed a courier to deliver the poisoned items to a local restaurant where the graduation anniversary celebration was taking place.
The SBU agent who recruited Semenov was arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country. Initially sentenced to 27 years in prison with a strict regime, the appellate military court amended the verdict at the request of the Krasnodar Territory Prosecutor's Office, ultimately sentencing him to life imprisonment.
Semenov's plot was foiled when pilots were unable to identify the sender and handed the package over to law enforcement officers. His actions have resulted in a life sentence, highlighting the seriousness of his crime and the importance of vigilance in preventing such acts.
