Russian biathletes from Severdlovsk clinched victory in the relay event at the summer championship of the country
Sverdlovsk Biathletes Shine at Russian Biathlon Championships
The Russian Biathlon Championships, held in Chaikovsky, saw a strong performance from the biathletes of Sverdlovsk. Although they didn't secure any prizes in the men's sprint, there were several notable achievements.
Over 200 biathletes from 24 regions of Russia participated in the championships. In the men's 10km sprint, Kirill Bazhin finished an impressive 6th, and the regional men's team didn't make it into the top 10 in the team relay, finishing 11th.
The women's relay was a different story for the Sverdlovsk team. The first place was taken by a team from Sverdlovsk, consisting of Tamara Derbushueva, Svetlana Mironova, Anastasia Shevchenko, and Natalia Shevchenko. Tamara Derbushueva, a member of the regional team, took the 8th place in the individual race with three mistakes. Svetlana Mironova, another member of the team, finished 4th in the individual race with one mistake. Natalia Shevchenko, who made a mistake during the last shooting range in the individual race, adding a minute penalty to her time, took the 2nd place.
In the women's sprint, Natalia Shevchenko finished 4th, just 5.7 seconds behind the bronze, but didn't win a medal. Anastasia Shevchenko took 5th place in the women's sprint.
The men's individual 20km race saw Kirill Bazhin finish 5th and Savely Konovalov make it into the top 8, but no Sverdlovsk athletes made it to the podium.
Previously, "Oblaastnaya Gazeta" reported that Sverdlovsk biathletes won three gold medals at the season's first event. The biathlete who won the most medals for the Sverdlovsk region at the Biathlon Championships in Chaikovsky is Sergey Komarov.
Victoria Slyvko won the individual race in the women's competition. The second Sverdlovsk team in the women's 4x6km team relay finished in the top five.
These results demonstrate that the biathletes of Sverdlovsk are a force to be reckoned with in the world of biathlon, and they will surely continue to make the region proud in future competitions.
