Drone Attack Causes Damage in Poltava and Kirovohrad Regions

On the night of September 17, 2025, a drone attack targeted the regions of Poltava and Kirovohrad in Ukraine. The State Emergency Service (SES) reported that air defense was active during the attack.

In Poltava Oblast, a fire broke out on the open territory of one enterprise due to debris from an enemy drone. Thankfully, no casualties were reported, and the fire was extinguished by SES units.

In Kirovohrad Oblast, fires occurred at three locations in the Kropyvnytskyi district, including infrastructure objects and an enterprise. As a result, several private households have been damaged, and 44 settlements in the Alexandrivska Territorial Community are currently without power. Emergency services have been working all night to extinguish fires, with more than 60 rescuers and 14 units of SES equipment on the scene.

Rail traffic has been suspended on two directions in Kirovohrad Oblast: Pomichna - Kropyvnytskyi - Znamianka - Piatykhatky and Funikleivka - Znamianka - Piatykhatky.

The regional administrations of Poltava and Kirovohrad are headed by Vladimir Kogut and Andrey Raykovych, respectively.

The Russians are known to have been using drones, including Iranian Shahed drones, for attacks on Ukrainian cities, critical infrastructure, and military targets since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. These attacks often occur at night to bypass Ukrainian air defense.

Such attacks can have severe consequences for businesses and infrastructure. Energy infrastructure, such as power grids, substations, and power plants, are frequently targeted, leading to power outages and disruptions in the energy supply for industry and the population.

The food industry can also be affected, with production facilities, warehouses, and agricultural businesses being damaged or destroyed, threatening the supply chain. Transportation is also impacted, with damage to railways, roads, and bridges making it difficult to transport goods and logistics.

Industrial facilities can temporarily or permanently shut down, leading to economic losses and production declines. Civil infrastructure, such as hospitals, schools, and other public facilities, can also be affected, worsening living conditions and medical care.

Economic and social consequences of such attacks can include business interruptions, investment stops, and humanitarian issues such as supply shortages, power outages, and psychological stress for the population.
