Russian alcohol sales plummet in 2025 as sparkling wine prices soar

Alcohol sales in Russia have dropped sharply in 2025, with sparkling wine also seeing a decline. Between January and October, total wine sales fell by 10.3% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the average price of Russian sparkling wine has risen by 10.2%, reaching 565.9 rubles per litre.

From January to October 2025, Russians bought 165.2 million decalitres of wine—down from previous figures. Sparkling wine sales alone dropped by 2.7%, totaling 15.9 million decalitres. Despite the decline, December remains the busiest month for sales, often driven by seasonal promotions.

The drop in wine sales reflects broader market shifts, with sparkling wine facing both lower demand and higher prices. Regional price differences highlight disparities in cost, from Dagestan’s low rates to Sakhalin’s premium pricing. As promotions continue to shape buying habits, December’s sales surge remains a key period for retailers.
