Russian aircraft allegedly intruded Estonian airspace, as claimed by Estonia.

In an unusual and bold move, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland on Friday, prompting a strong response from the Estonian government and NATO allies.

According to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, this incursion is unprecedentedly brazen. The jets entered Estonian airspace without permission, a clear breach of international aviation rules.

The incident marks the fourth time this year that Estonian airspace has been violated by Russian aircraft. In recent weeks, Russia has also violated the airspace of Poland and Romania, with incursions by both manned fighter jets and drones.

In response to these repeated airspace violations, NATO allies have pledged to beef up defenses on the alliance's eastern flank. The Estonian foreign ministry has also taken action, summoning Russia's charge d'affaires over the incident.

The jets remained in Estonian airspace for a total of 12 minutes before returning to Russian territory. The exact motives behind the violation are still unclear, but the incident has raised concerns about Russia's intentions towards its neighbours and NATO members.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and adherence to established rules and norms in maintaining peace and stability in the region. As the situation develops, it is expected that further measures will be taken to ensure the safety and security of Estonia and other NATO member states.
