Another Night of Drone Attacks on Russia, Defended By Air Defense Forces

Russian Air Defense units reported the elimination of over 60 Ukrainian drones across various Russian territories on June 8.

Last night, the Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted eight Russian regions with aircraft-type drones, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. From 11 PM on June 7 to 7:30 AM on June 8, these drones were intercepted and destroyed over Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Kursk regions, the Moscow region, and the Republic of Crimea.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a total of 61 drones were neutralized during this attack. Furthermore, on June 7, four unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed in the Black Sea, according to previous reports.

Air defense forces also shot down 311 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles in a day, including 140 outside the special operation zone, as claimed by the Ministry.

As the conflict between Ukrainian and Russian forces continues to escalate, it's worth delving into the recent developments. Here's a brief overview of the latest turn of events:

Russian Drone Strikes on Ukraine

In response to Ukraine's "Operation Spider Web," a series of long-range drone strikes against Russian air bases, Russian forces conducted the largest combined missile and drone strike of the war against Ukraine, as confirmed on June 8-9, 2025. This operation aimed to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses and distract from subsequent missile launches.

Ukrainian Countermeasures

Despite the large-scale attack, Ukrainian air defenses have shown resilience, shooting down a substantial number of drones. For example, on June 10, Ukraine reported successfully defending against 284 out of 315 drones launched by Russia.

Ukraine has been engaging in long-range drone strikes against Russian military and defense industrial targets, including strikes on Russian airfields deep within Russian territory, which have been seen as a significant escalation in their military strategy.

General Conflict Developments

The ongoing conflict has resulted in territorial advances, with Russian forces reaching the Dnipropetrovsk-Donetsk administrative border and advancing near Lyman. Both sides have also conducted prisoner of war exchanges following bilateral talks in Istanbul.
