Overnight Aggression: Russian Air Defense Systems Repel Massive Drone Attack

Russian air defense systems successfully repelled a massive drone attack overnight between August 3 and 4, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

The offensive, which took place between 11:00 p.m. on August 3 and 5:20 a.m. on August 4, saw a total of 61 Ukrainian drones destroyed or intercepted across eight Russian regions and the Black Sea.

The Black Sea bore the brunt of the attack, with 18 drones intercepted, followed closely by the Voronezh region with 12, Crimea with 11, and the Belgorod region with 8. Other regions affected included Volgograd (6), Bryansk (2), Rostov (2), Moscow (1), and Ryazan (1).

The attack was particularly intense over the Voronezh region, where an alarm was declared in the Liskinsky district due to a threat of a direct drone strike. Local residents were advised to take cover in a safe location, and warning systems were activated.

Eight drones were shot down over the territory of the Voronezh region, three more in the Kursk region, and two over the Bryansk region.

In a separate incident, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported explosions near the Zaporizhzhia NPP, although it's unclear if these incidents are connected.

This is not the first time Russian air defense systems have fended off such attacks. From 20:00 to 23:25 Moscow time on August 2, Russian air defense systems destroyed and intercepted 41 Ukrainian drones.
