Drone Attacks on Russian Territory, Caspian Pipeline Claim

Russian Air Defense forces successfully took down 61 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on June 20th night.

Overnight from June 19 to June 20, Ukrainian drones once again targeted Russian territory. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 61 Ukrainian drones over various regions. The Orlovskaya region had 22 drones downed, the Kurskaya region - 14, the Belgorodskaya region - 7, and the Voronezhskaya region - 5. Three drones each were downed in the Volgogradskaya, Rostovskaya, Tverskaya, and Bryanskaya regions, with another one downed in the Moscow region [1][2][3].

Meanwhile, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) took a significant step by initiating a lawsuit against Ukraine, seeking compensation for the damages incurred from a drone attack in February 2025. The attack on the Kropotkinskaya oil pump station caused approximately $34.38 million in damage, but fortunate enough, no CPC employees reported casualties [3]. Although the CPC lacks the direct legal status to approach the International Court of Justice, the consortium initiated the required procedures to pursue legal action against Ukraine [1][3][4].

Industry experts are skeptical about the success of this lawsuit, given the CPC’s lack of formal international legal standing and other procedural difficulties [4]. Nevertheless, the CPC’s board and shareholders have expressed their concerns, labeling the attack a terrorist act aimed at damaging civilian infrastructure and potentially causing human casualties [1].

Stay tuned as this ongoing case unfolds and the world awaits Ukraine's response to the allegations [3].
