Russian aggression leaves dozens dead, over forty injured in Ukraine assault
🇷🇺 Russian Drone Havoc Leaves Tragic Toll in Ukrainian Cities 🇪🇺
It's a chilling scene unfolding across the skies of Kharkiv and Dnipro as Russian forces unleash swarms of drones, according to Ukrainian reports. The carnage left behind has claimed at least one life and left nearly 50 people injured, authorities said on Wednesday.
In the heart of Kharkiv, a city often targeted for its proximity to Russia's border and boasting a current population of around 1.2 million, 45 people were injured, including two children and a pregnant woman. The governor of the region, Oleh Synyehubov, shared these grim details on Telegram. The mayor of the city, Ihor Terechov, reported 16 attacks on Kharkiv that targeted everything from high-rise buildings to medical facilities, civilian infrastructure, and private homes.
In the southeastern city of Dnipro, a 53-year-old man lost his life, and another resident was injured in the mayhem, Dnipropetrovsk region governor Serhiy Lysak announced on Telegram. "A hard night for Dnipro," Lysak wrote, as nine Russian drones were intercepted over the region.
The extent of these attacks remains unclear with initial reports emerging. Meanwhile, Russian state media reported, citing Moscow's defense ministry, that 34 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted overnight—each side trading allegations of attacking civilians.
Supporting Russian forces for months have been North Korean soldiers, as confirmed by both Russia and Ukraine earlier this week. South Korean lawmakers report that around 600 North Korean soldiers have been casualties in the war so far—both dead and injured. Lee Seong Kweun, a member of the parliamentary intelligence committee in Seoul, notes that the North Koreans are becoming more adept at using new weapons like drones after six months in battle.
The U.S. is urging Russia and Ukraine to work together to end the war, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling for both parties to present concrete proposals. The U.S. has repeatedly stated its intent to mediate but might abandon this role if no progress is visible. U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin wishes to put an end to the war, although recent attacks on Ukrainian cities have raised questions.
