Russian advancement near Pokrovsk and Dobropillia frontlines in Ukraine reportedly thwarted by Ukrainian troops
In the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, there has been a small infiltration of Russian troops on the Pokrovsk and Dobropillia fronts. This infiltration, while resulting in limited tactical advances and footholds in some villages, is being actively resisted and contained by Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, over 110,000 Russian troops are concentrated around Pokrovsk, attempting to penetrate defenses with small infantry groups between Ukrainian lines. Villages such as Zolotyi Kolodiaz, Vesele, Vilne, Rubizhne, Kucheriv Yar, and others near Pokrovsk and Dobropillia have been infiltrated by Russian troops, with some groups reportedly reaching 8-10 kilometers from Pokrovsk and approaching key roads like the Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway.
However, Ukrainian forces, including the Azov Corps, have launched fierce counterattacks, reportedly liberating some villages and cutting off isolated Russian units trying to encircle Pokrovsk. These counterattacks have resulted in costly failures for the Russian infiltration tactics in this sector.
The terrain and low manpower density in the frontline area imply that Russian advances are primarily small-scale penetrations rather than broad operational breakthroughs. Ukraine is using drones and defensive measures to prevent larger encirclement efforts.
DeepState, a Ukrainian OSINT project, indicates that Russian forces are attempting to establish positions near key highways and have amassed troops in these villages for further attacks, though they have not yet consolidated or established a strong continuous defensive line.
Meanwhile, Russia is reportedly pulling troops from all regions to contain Ukraine's counteroffensive, according to UK intelligence. On a separate note, Ukraine's Defence Intelligence has refuted reports of an Assad plane crash, and a major fire is raging in Russia's Novorossiysk port, with the cargo terminal in flames. The StratCom has denied a reported breakthrough by Russians on a section of the front line in Ukraine's east, stating that a similar situation occurred a week ago in Pokrovsk, which was unsuccessful for the enemy. As of 12 August, DeepState map shows Russian troops intensifying their advance in the direction of Dobropillia. Lastly, UK intelligence reports that Russian general Surovikin has been found in Algeria.
