In the early hours of August 20, 2025, Russian forces launched a drone attack on Izmail, a city in Ukraine's Odesa region. The attack, part of a series of massive assaults targeting critical infrastructure and energy installations across Ukraine, caused a large-scale fire at a fuel and energy facility.
According to reports, the drone attack sparked a fire that quickly spread, causing damage to the facility and affecting nearby infrastructure and production facilities. The Odesa Regional Military Administration (OVA), led by Oleh Kiper, made the announcement about the attack on Telegram.
The State Emergency Service (DSNS) and 54 rescuers, along with 16 emergency units and a Ukrzaliznytsia fire train, were swiftly deployed to extinguish the fires. Despite the quick response, the extent of the damage is currently unknown.
One person was injured as a result of the attack, but the injured man received all necessary medical care. Fortunately, no further injuries were reported beyond the initially injured man. The fires were eventually contained, but the impact on Izmail's community and economy remains to be seen.
The announcement was also shared on the Telegram account of the Kyivpost_official, further disseminating the news. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing conflict and the potential risks it poses to Ukraine's civilians and infrastructure.
