Amidst the ongoing carnage in Ukraine, lives are being lost and wounded daily due to Russian aerial bombardment. However, Ukraine's air force doesn't seem to be resting as well, launching nighttime assaults targeting essential infrastructure, and according to their accounts, scoring hits on multiple military airbases.
Simultaneously, the Russian landscape is under siege from Ukrainian drones. Official figures indicate that an incredible 174 drones have been shot down over various Russian regions, including Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Rяazan, Tula, Belgorod, Tambov, and the occupied Crimean peninsula. "Furthermore, three Neptune-MD guided missiles were eliminated by air defense over the Black Sea," they added.
Despite Russia's triumphant declarations, the engagement has escalated. The city of Engels in the Saratov region acquainted with a high-rise being struck. Residents were temporarily evacuated, but no one was hurt, as per Saratov Governor Roman Busargin. "A drone strike initiated a fire at one of the industrial facilities in Engels," he also mentioned, with media reports suggesting it was a refinery.
Engels is home to a substantial Russian air force support base, from which aircraft regularly take off, bound for Ukraine. Moreover, a reported impact took place near a military airfield in the Bryansk region. Local videos show a massive fireball and numerous explosions. Independent military analyst Jan Matvejev proposes that a munitions storage facilitiy was struck.
Ukraine: Military Airbases under Siege?
Ukraine claims victories against several Russian military airbases. Among the "victorious" strikes, one purportedly hit the Engels airbase in southern Russia's Saratov region, where many "enemy aircraft" are stationed. Additionally, the Dyagilevo airbase in the Ryazan region south of Moscow was also targeted. This base serves for air refueling and escort aircraft that Russia deploys for offensive operations against Ukrainian soil.
Politics Mysterious Destruction of Russian Iskander System Acting Governor Yevgeny Perwishov of the Tambov region reported a facility impact. Three individuals were injured in the incident, but additional data concerning the facility is not available. Meanwhile, there was another attack on the railway in the border region of Belgorod: After a blast, a reserve locomotive veered off the tracks. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the track was momentarily blocked. In recent days, there have been numerous attacks on railway infrastructure, including one that led to a passenger train derailment, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
