Over the past year, Russia has continuously carried out aerial attacks on Ukraine. The country's president, Zelenskyy, announced that roughly 27,700 airstrikes have taken place since the year's start.

Ukraine-Russia Conflict: A Tense Standoff

Russia, through its actions, is publicly displaying a rude and provocative gesture towards the entire global community, as asserted by Zelensky.

Kyiv - In the midst of relentless Russian attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pleads for allies to show some muscle. Since the new year, Russia has unleashed a barrage of air bombs (roughly 27,700), drones (over 20,000), and missiles (700) onto Ukrainian soil, Zelenskyy admitted during a late-night address on X platform. If Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin detects any trace of weakness from his adversaries, he is likely to ratchet up the aggression.

"If the mighty don't put a stop to Putin, they're essentially signaling that they're in cahoots with him. And if they're unable to stop him, well, Putin will no longer view them as powerful," Zelenskyy warned. Reports suggest that Russia is hatching more assaults to avenge the unexpected strikes on Russian military aircraft. "This implies that with each fresh assault, with each stalling in diplomacy, Russia is flipping the bird to the world - to everyone that's yet to beef up the pressure on the nation," Zelenskyy added.

It's Putin who should be craving tranquility, Zelenskyy stressed. "In Moscow, they should start to grasp that war breeds costs, exorbitant costs, and the one who pays the highest price is the aggressor."

The figures for the projectiles fired aren't entirely verifiable, but they offer a rough estimate of the scale of the attacks. By the end of May, Zelenskyy spoke of Ukraine being hammered with nearly 300 drone attacks and approximately 70 cruise missile and missile attacks in a single night.

Diplomatic Efforts and Escalation

President Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian officials have continuously implored for increased international pressure on Russia, including economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation. However, diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have yet to lead to significant progress. Peace talks remain stalled, with Russia insisting on the recognition of its territorial claims. If Ukraine refuses to conform, Moscow will keep pushing[1].

Militarily, Russian forces have been inching forward, recently making advances in regions such as Belgorod and Sumy oblasts, and near Lyman[2]. They've also been pushing into the Dnipropetrovsk region, triggering multiple air raid alerts across Ukraine[1]. In response, Ukraine has staged noteworthy strikes against Russian targets, including the annihilation of 11 to 12 Russian strategic bombers, carried out through a drone attack on June 1, 2025[4]. The air war has intensified, with both sides engaging in prolific missile and drone strikes, thereby increasing the challenge of defense and the toll on civilians[3]. Russia is rumored to have planned a summer offensive, which may lead to further territorial gains albeit at considerable costs for both sides[3].

Ukraine is resolutely standing ground against Russian advances, with their intent focused on disrupting Moscow's plans and safeguarding key positions[1]. The conflict's trajectory is heavily contingent on continued Western support for Ukraine. Russia's military strategy hinges on the presumption that Western backers might reduce their assistance, facilitating more substantial advances[2].

In light of the tension, it is crucial for global powers to intervene politically and economically, as Russia's aggression in the Ukraine-Russia conflict shows no signs of abating and could escalate further with planned summer offensives, according to reports. The ongoing war-and-conflicts have provoked a series of military actions, intensifying the air war and increasing the hardship on civilians, making general-news headlines around the world.
