The long-awaited repatriation of fallen Ukrainian heroes has commenced, with Kyiv receiving the first batch of 1,212 war casualties from Russia [1][2][3]. The Office for the Affairs of Prisoners of War in Kyiv confirmed the number of remains handed over, having been killed in brutal engagements in various zones. These battles occurred in the Russian region of Kursk and the Ukrainian regions of Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.

Despite Russia's mounting pressure on Ukraine to accept the fallow remains, the move has been met with mixed responses. Critics argue that Kyiv delayed the process, while Russia referred to the return as a humanitarian gesture [4]. Nevertheless, the families of the fallen soldiers in Ukraine are finally afforded the closure they deserve.

The exchange of mortal remains was a result of agreements reached in Istanbul earlier this month, with nearly 6,000 soldiers' remains to be returned [5]. It remains uncertain whether Russia will also receive the remains of its own soldiers lost in the fighting in Ukraine. Ukraine has endured relentless aggression for over three years, fearlessly standing ground.

In the context of international negotiations, the community and politics are discussing the return of thousands of soldiers' remains from a conflict zone, with Ukraine receiving the first batch (1,212) from Russia, marking a significant general news event. Meanwhile, these events have spurred debate about employment policies within the two countries, as Russia is still uncertain whether it will receive the remains of its own soldiers lost in the fighting in Ukraine.
