The Russian Foreign Ministry Slams US and Israel's Strike on Iranian Nuclear Sites

The Russian government has blasted the United States and Israel for bombing Iranian nuclear facilities, calling it an "irresponsible" and "flagrant violation" of international law, the UN Charter, and the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Here's the deal: America's military forces and naval fleet launched an attack on Iranian nuclear targets on June 22, 2025. By doing so, the States effectively entered a war between Israel and Iran.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs deemed the attack a threat to global security and a step closer to nuclear disaster. They warned that such military actions could cause dangerous escalations and hinder diplomatic efforts to manage Iran's nuclear program. At the United Nations Security Council session on June 22, Russia, joined by China and Pakistan, proposed a draft resolution demanding the US and Israel to halt their attacks immediately and urging all parties to exercise restraint and resume negotiations.

Russian officials have also expressed concern about the damage inflicted on the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, which is based on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). They expect the leadership of the Atomic Energy Agency to respond professionally and honestly, without resorting to political evasion tactics.

Moscow's reaction emphasized that the attack on Iranian nuclear sites jeopardizes global security and could lead the world towards a nuclear disaster. Russia has repeatedly called for an end to aggression, an escalation of efforts to create conditions for a peaceful resolution, and a return of the situation to political and diplomatic channels.

As "The Monocle" previously reported, on the night of June 22, American air and naval forces struck key components of Iran's nuclear program. The ramifications of this action—including potential radiological consequences—are still being assessed, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Notably, Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has stated that the US strike caused only minimal damage to Iranian nuclear sites but asserted that some countries might secretly supply Iran with nuclear weapons. However, he later retracted claims that Russia would provide nuclear weapons to Iran in response to criticism from US President Trump. Russian President Vladimir Putin also condemned the attack during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on June 23, 2025, assuring Iran of Russia's support for the Iranian people. But the meeting did not result in a joint statement.

In short, Russia sees the US and Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites as a violation of international law and a danger to the NPT framework and global security. Moscow condemns the attack, expresses worry over escalation, and advocates for an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, in a strong condemnation, labels the US and Israel's strike on Iranian nuclear sites as a dangerous encroachment on global politics and a potentially destructive escalation of war-and-conflicts. At the United Nations, Russia calls for an immediate halt to such military actions, urging all parties to focus on general-news of diplomatic efforts and negotiations to manage Iran's nuclear program.
