Russia Claims Ukrainian Air Defense System Taken Out
Russia reports destruction of German-origin air defense system in Ukraine conflict
Yo, here's a wild one, straight from the front lines of Ukraine. The Russian military's been bragging about taking out a German-supplied Iris-T air defense system in the Dnipropetrovsk region. They posted a dodgy vid, just over half a minute long, supposedly showing the deed. According to Russia, they knocked out the radar, missile launcher, command post, and a couple of support vehicles with an Iskander missile. But, hey, we all know unverified vids can be tricky business.
Iris-T is top-notch, short-range air defense gear. So far, since the Russian invasion started, Germany's dished out six systems like this to Ukraine. They're mainly used to protect major cities in the rear, so losing 'em would be a significant blow.
Ukraine's been mum about the whole affair, but keep in mind, both sides have played the decoy game with weapon systems, trying to fool the enemy.
German officials haven't officially confirmed the destruction of any Iris-T systems in Ukraine by the Russians. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is yet to confirm Russia's claim. The Russians claim to have nuked one in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, but the authenticity of the video is, well, questionable, and Ukraine hasn't commented officially.
On the brighter side, Germany still can't confirm the Russians' assertion, and there's no official German statement confirming the loss. And, hype news flash, they've recently announced new orders for additional Iris-T systems for Ukraine!
