Russia reportedly planning for peace negotiations with Ukraine, set to take place in Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin's office confirmed on Tuesday that preparations for peace talks with Ukraine are ongoing, set for Thursday in Istanbul. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced this during a press briefing in Moscow, offering no further details about the Russian delegation for the talks.
While Peskov did not disclose the names of the delegation members, presidential aide Yury Ushakov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov are reportedly among potential leaders of the team. Vladimir Medinsky, a consistent Moscow representative in these negotiations, is tipped to lead the Russian delegation, having led the team during the first Istanbul talks in 2022 and again in May 2025.
The proposal for unconditional talks in Istanbul was made by President Putin during a press conference in Moscow on Sunday. Later that day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed Turkey's readiness to host the meeting during a phone conversation with Putin.
