Russia reportedly lacks the power to execute a significant military offensive, according to Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Ukraine is on the brink of receiving significant aid in the form of missiles for its Patriot and Himars air defense systems. The countries contributing to this support through the NATO Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism include the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Canada, and others. Collectively, these nations have already provided over two billion US dollars since July and August 2025.
Ukraine anticipates further funds amounting to approximately 3.5 to 3.6 billion US dollars for October 2025, which would bring the total to around 6 billion US dollars. This funding will be used for the delivery of two packages, each worth 500 million US dollars.
The first two packages, due for delivery soon, will include a variety of equipment, not just missiles for the Patriot and Himars air defense systems, which are crucial for Ukraine's defense against Russian attacks.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been ongoing for over three and a half years. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Russia is currently unable to launch a major offensive in its war against Ukraine. He attributes this to significant losses of Russian soldiers, which prevent them from conducting strong additional actions.
Zelensky also stated that the operation in Sumy has already failed, resulting in heavy losses for Russia, especially in human life. The Ukrainian military inflicted even greater losses on Russian forces in this operation.
In August, the situation was particularly critical in the Donetsk region, with the fronts at Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, and the border with the Dnipropetrovsk region in Nowopawliwka being the most challenging.
The new NATO mechanism, PURL, coordinates the implementation of weapons deliveries that are procured in the US for Kyiv but financed by Ukraine's partners. This mechanism ensures that Ukraine receives the necessary aid quickly and efficiently.
Zelensky mentioned that Russia had prepared offensive operations along four main axes this year: Sumy, Nowopawliwka, Pokrovsk, and Saporizhzhia. Despite these preparations, Ukraine continues to stand strong against Russian aggression, thanks in part to the support it receives from its international partners.
