Chaotic Ceasefire: Kyiv Alleges Over 700 Russian Violations in Three Days
Russia repeatedly breached the ceasefire in Kiev, transgressing over 700 times
It's a messy picture on the Eastern front, with Kyiv calling out Moscow's empty rhetoric. Kyiv foreign minister Andrij Sybiha took to a popular social platform to share his concern, stating that, according to their military reports, Russian troops are blatantly disregarding their own self-declared ceasefire. Since the ceasefire began at midnight, the Ukrainian forces claim that the Russian military has violated it over 700 times.
Incidents Galore
Despite Putin's unilateral three-day truce aiming to coincide with World War II commemorations, the Ukrainian air force raised alerts in seven districts in Eastern Ukraine, with fears of ballistic missile attacks lingering. In the wee hours, Russia allegedly bombarded the eastern Ukrainian region of Sumy with guided bombs. These incidents are just the tip of the iceberg, with reports of drone and artillery attacks piling up.
Unfounded Claims and Counter-Allegations
While the Ministry of Defense in Moscow assures that the Russian army has been adhering strictly to the ceasefire and is only retaliating against Ukrainian attacks, it also reports a Ukrainian breakthrough attempt in the Russian region of Kursk. The Russian military also points the finger at 488 alleged Ukrainian ceasefire breaches, despite the Ukrainian leadership not publicly agreeing to the ceasefire.
Zelenskyy's Affirmation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II by emphasizing his country's role in freeing Europe from Nazism. Zelenskyy reminded us that "evil" must still be fought, referring to Russia's need for "denazification and demilitarization," a clear dig at the large military parade planned for Red Square in Moscow.
