Russia Repeatedly Breached Ceasefire Over 700 Instances in Kiev

It's day two of Moscow's self-proclaimed ceasefire in Ukraine, and things aren't going swimmingly. According to Ukrainian officials, the Russian forces have blatantly disregarded the truce. Hundreds of violations have been reported.

"Our military data shows Russian forces persistently attacking along the entire front line," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha declared on the social media X-platform. It's been more than 700 times since midnight that the Russians have breached the ceasefire.

Earlier in the day, air alerts blared out in seven eastern Ukrainian regions, as the air force warned about potential ballistic missile attacks. The Ukrainian region of Sumy was targeted with guided bombs overnight, the air force reported.

Putin, ever the showman, declared this temporary truce to coincide with Victory Day commemorations, starting at midnight. However, as predictable as it is, Sybiha wrote, the "parade ceasefire" is nothing but a sham. "Russian forces continue their attacks along the entire front line."

While the Russian defense ministry claims that their army is sticking to the ceasefire, they accuse Ukraine of aggression. They also reported a Ukrainian attempt at breaking through in the Russian region of Kursk. The ministry also claimed 488 instances of Ukrainian ceasefire violations, although the leadership in Kyiv has yet to publicly confirm it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of Ukraine's role in freeing Europe from Nazism on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. In a video message, he strolled through Kyiv, speaking to passersby, stating, "evil must be fought together." If it persists, Russia needs "denazification and demilitarization," he added, alluding to the massive military parade planned for Moscow's Red Square.
